IN OTHERS' WORDS:

"I attended Robyn Ochs' 'Unlearning Biphobia' Workshop expecting a party line primer. What I got instead was an expansive, challenging and loving look at how fear limits us all. Robyn Ochs is definitely a bi to watch out for!

--Alison Bechdel, Creator of Dykes to Watch Out For

From Margie Cook, Coordinator of the LGBT Resource Center, Northern Illinois University: As usual, your presentations were fantastic. I really meant it when I said I think you are one of the best speakers we have ever had on campus.
From Sonia Shield at Swarthmore: Thanks again for coming down here and speaking! ... I got some great feedback from people about your visit and I wanted to pass it along -- people loved your lecture and workshop and were really excited that you were here. I heard several times that it was the best lecture they'd gone to all year.
From Michael Grandys at Northern Illinois University: Your workshop was phenomenal! It was exactly what the doctor ordered: a great opportunity for both heterosexual and LesBiGay folk to learn a great deal about each other. ... I left the workshop, as I am sure many did, with a very positive outlook and a greater sense of awareness. Thank you times a hundred.
From the organizers of the Boston Dyke March (June 2001), where Robyn was one of the four speakers: "You were awesome!" "Incredible - thank you." " "Awesome job." "You rock."
From Javier & Mike at Northern Illinois University: Keep your eyes open for the return of Robyn Ochs in the years to come! She is one of the most dynamic speakers the LGBC has ever sponsored on this campus, and it is certainly a privilege to witness her at work.
From Marty from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst: I wanted to say thank you for coming to UMass to facilitate the Creating a Positive Identity workshop. It is always a pleasure to host you, and this last workshop proved to be yet another great experience for students. The feedback has been WONDERFUL and it seems that you all did some really powerful and meaningful work during the evening. You may be interested to know that a Bisexual Rap Group has formed as a result of the workshop. Congratulations for your excellent work, Robyn.
From Holly Nanette Ferrise, University of Michigan: "Robyn, thank you so much for visiting both our and Eastern's campus last week and weekend, and for sharing so many of your experiences with our communities. A zillion people thanked me for bringing you to campus and were full of wonderful things to say about your talk, your ideas, and having more bi visibility around. I am so grateful that you were able to spend so much time here and contribute so much, and I enjoyed hanging out with you and your partner - you two are really wonderful people … and you have certainly inspired me to take the initiative to get some things going around here, especially since there's such an impetus at this point.

Thanks for all your time, all your work, all your energy, for being a role model to me and many others, and for your general fabulousness!"

From Maryanne from Yale: What a treat it was to have you visit for BGLAD. The week was a phenomenal success and your talk was an important part of that. I have gotten so much positive feedback from those who attended. It is always wonderful to have speakers who can make an event both empowering and informative. You seamlessly wove those two components together. Hey--your event was even mentioned in the conservative paper here. And we all know that we must be doing something right if the right wing feels the need to mention us.
From Jennifer at Susquehanna University: On behalf of SDAC and Susquehanna University, I would like to thank you for your visit here several weeks ago. Everyone who was able to spend time with you outside of the workshops enjoyed your company, and all of us in the WomenSpeak House were happy to have you as our guest.

In the last few weeks, I have been able to hear some responses to your workshops, and several of the people who attended came away with a much better understanding of the diversity on this campus and in the world. The "Unlearning Homophobia" workshop had a definite impact on the students. Several of those who attended for extra credit have said that the workshop made them realize how they have supported stereotypes and prejudices; I hope that realization will help them be more aware of homophobia and more eager to help end it.

In my opinion, the members of SDAC also learned from the workshops and are more aware of the ways in which they contribute to heterosexist attitudes. In the last two meetings, several of the 'new' people who attended the workshops have joined SDAC, and I'm hopeful that they will contribute new ideas and fresh insight to the group.

Again, thank you for sharing your workshops with Susquehanna. Your visit has helped us to open the lines of communication and keep awareness alive on our campus.

From Rev. Gary Comstock, Wesleyan: Thank you again for bringing such wonderful energy, clear insight, and sincere concern to Wesleyan. You made a very positive impression and left us with much substance. I'm hearing all favorable and enthusiastic follow-up comments. Carry on!
From Dr. Felice Yeskel, Director of the Stonewall Center, U.Mass, Amherst: I wanted to write and thank you for your wonderful workshop on 'Unlearning Biphobia.' I have heard many positive comments from students about the workshop; I think we will be talking about you for some time to come. You have a real knack for creating a safe and supportive environment that enabled us to engage in an important dialogue. Your time with us was a great gift to our campus community; and everyone is hungry for more.

So we want to invite you back. We'd love to have you return and be part of our Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Studies Series, as well as to do another workshop. Either later this Spring or next Fall would be great. Please let me know if you are interested. Again, many thanks for the wonderful work that you do!

From Bruce Smail, the LGBT Coordinator at the University of Colorado, Boulder: Thank you for a wonderful job you did on Wednesday night. It was great spending time with you. What amazes me about you - is the personal, warm, caring side that has many of us very fond of what you did on Wednesday. I treasure the moments we shared at dinner. It was an excellent opportunity for staff, volunteers and co-sponsors to come together and share in your insights and experiences. I also felt that your presentation was outstanding and you touched many people in ways they did not expect. Drawing the connections between the many sides of Robyn -- was very powerful and provided many opportunities for people to connect with your similar situations. I wish you all the best, look forward to remaining in touch, and will share this experience with others.
From Prof. Charles LoPresto, Loyola University: It was indeed our pleasure to have you here. The word was, "She's REALLY cool." It does my heart good for our students to be exposed to such positive role models, and you fit the bill quite nicely. Also, your workshop really opened some minds, some in particular that really needed opening.
From Frank Golom, student at Loyola University: Thank you so much for coming to Loyola. You brought something here that no one else could have, and you have forever earned a place at our table as a result. I extend to you not only my own personal thank you, but also the thank you of the entire Spectrum group. Specifically, those of us who are GLBT will forever be indebted to your vision and determination. You make it possible for beginners like myself.
From Lori Babcock and Janna Sears, co-chairs, Womyn's Concerns, Drew University: You were fantastic and everybody really enjoyed themselves and learned a lot about the connections between feminism and bisexuality, and where each of us fits into the complex webs of individuality, sexuality, and social responsibility. Your workshop "Bisexuality, Feminism, Men & Me" is a very effective mix of insight and humor that was both personally revealing and generalizable to a broader social/collective level.

I felt that you inspired a lot of self-reflection among your audience, which has been confirmed by the "buzz" that followed the event. … I know that there are a lot of Drew students who are very envious of students at Tufts who get to explore some of these issues of bisexual identity over the course of an entire semester. We only had one evening.

We appreciate all your efforts as a teacher, activist and human being very, very much! You are making an impact. Keep in touch with Womyn's Concerns and the Alliance at Drew as I know that you will be asked to return in the not-so-distant future!

From Mitch Lunn, Assistant Conference Chair, Safe Colleges Conference: Thank you so much for presenting at our conference. One workshop attendee said that "this was a really great workshop that I enjoyed profoundly. I wanted to continue after it was done." I personally heard comments about your workshops throughout the day, and of course, I personally got a lot out of "Choosing to Label" We will certainly invite you back here next year.
